Protect your property — get a P-contamination test
Purchasing a property can be stressful. It is often hard to really know what you are getting into — what is hidden within. And, today, it is not just leaky homes you have to worry about; methamphetamine (P)-contaminated homes have become a worrying problem.
The horrors of P contamination
Methamphetamine is an extremely dangerous drug. So, if your property has played host to a P-lab, you have a major problem.
From a health perspective, the solvents, acids and other chemicals contained in methamphetamine cause serious cardiovascular, respiratory and skin problems.
From a financial perspective, the consequences are just as dire. Methamphetamine contamination is so pervasive that, in many cases, contaminated properties have had carpets, architraves, fittings — even paint—removed. For some unfortunate property owners, the cost of decontamination has exceeded $100,000, and in some cases properties have been demolished. Also, local councils have the power to prevent you occupying or renting out a property until it has been decontamination.
P testing methods
Once we have collected samples, ISO 17025 accredited Analytica Laboratories takes them for analysis. Analytica provides several methods of testing for P contamination, but we use the Laboratory Composite Analysis (LCA) method. In our view, it provides the best value and the best reports. With LCA, we can avoid the high initial cost of testing samples individually because Analytica can screen several samples together. Should testing show high levels of methamphetamine, individual samples can then be retained and tested.
MMC screening kits
For an instant result, we also use MMC screening kits; however, this method will only show the presence of P, not the level.
